Preventing Injury In Dangerous Winter Weather | Personal Injury Lawyer College Park

This winter has been a tough one here in Atlanta. Winter storms have created dangerous weather conditions that can cause injury to your person and property.  Ice, freezing temperatures and high winds can reek havoc in many different ways.  From downed power lines to icy roads, it is important to be aware of your surroundings during a winter storm so you can protect yourself. Here are a few tips to help you prevent injury in dangerous winter weather:

MINIMIZE TRAVEL: Roads and highways  can be a dangerous place during a storm due to black ice, poor visibility and distractions. Whenever possible stay home and out of the car.

PLAN AHEAD: Don’t wait until the last minute to prepare. Have food, water, flash lights, a weather radio and other emergency supplies ready to go well in advance of the storm. Also keep a full first aid kit within reach.

PREPARE YOUR PROPERTY: From your car to your walkway, prepare for the weather. Have salt, shovels, ladders, proper tires and any other things needed to keep your home and person safe. You don’t want anyone to slip on an icy walkway or be hit by falling ice. Make sure your home is a “safe zone", free of debris, ice and large icicles.

Protect Yourself From Injury During the Holiday Season | Personal Injury Firm

The holidays bring so much joy, fun and of course travel! During all the hustle and bustle, accidents and injury are bound to happen. Whether it is during shopping, driving or outdoor fun you never know when an accident may occur. No one wants their holidays to be ruined by injury.  Here are a few tips that can help you protect yourself from injury during the holidays.

PREPARE FOR HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES: Sledding, skiing and other outdoor fun are often a part of the holiday season. Being prepared with the proper safety gear, receiving proper instruction and choosing a safe location are all imperative to your safety.

DRIVE DURING WAKING HOURS: Tired drivers are dangerous drivers. Even though it can be tempting to leave in the middle of the night and drive straight through to your destination to avoid traffic, it may not be the best decision. You need to be alert and focused when you are driving. Be sure you are well rested before you hit the road.

BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR DECORATIONS: Outdoor decorations, holiday light and Christmas trees are often part of the holiday festivities, but be safe with them. When using ladders, be sure it is sturdy and have a spotter. Be sure your tree is stable so that is doesn't fall over and keep it watered to prevent fires. Make sure any decorations inside or outside the home are not obstructing walkways. They should also be very secure as not to easy fall or shift, which could lead to injury.

Everyone at the Foster Firm wishes you a happy and SAFE holiday season. If you or a loved one is injured this holiday season, we can help. We are experienced personal injury attorneys who care. Have great holiday!

Make Your Home Safer To Reduce Personal Injury Risks & Lawsuits | Personal Injury Attorney Atlanta

Thousands of people are injured and killed every year from accidents in there home. Most of these accidents are completely preventable. Falls comprise the largest percentage of in home accidents that result in injury or death.  There are things you can do to make your home safer and reduce the risks of falls and injury to others in your home. Not only will you be safer, but you will reduce your risk of being sued because someone was injured in your home.

Here are a few suggestions for making your home safer…

HAVE STABLE HANDRAILS IN YOUR HOME THAT ARE UP TO CODE
In most cases, handrails are required in your home for any staircase. Make sure they are sturdy, in tact and have no dangerous protrusions.

KEEP YOUR STAIRS FREE FROM DEBRIS AND BE SURE THEY ARE UNIFORM
Falling on stairs commonly lead to injuries in the home.  Never allow toys, stray carpet threads, loose nails or objects to interfere with your stair's safety.

KEEP DOGS AWAY FROM YOUR GUESTS
We all like to think that our dog is friendly and will never bite anyone, but that simply is not the case. Even a normally calm and gentle dog, may exhibit aggressive behavior without warning. Keep your dog safely away from guests whenever they visit your home.
